Island Community Joins Forces to Help a Teacher in Need

An upcoming fundraising event at Pierce Park will help a beloved island teacher who is battling cancer. In typical Daniel Island fashion, the students, parents and faculty at the Daniel Island Academy are joining forces to help a friend in need. Ms. Valarie, as she is known by her students, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and has maintained an amazing and positive attitude despite regular chemotherapy and radiation treatments and a recent surgery. The out-of-pocket costs associated with these treatments is astounding.

To help, a special dinner and silent auction will be held on Friday, May 22 at the pavilion at Pierce Park from 6:30-8:30 pm. The admission donation of at least $25 includes food, beverages and live music in the pavilion’s beautiful marsh front setting. All proceeds will go towards setting off Ms. Valerie’s expenses. Children are free, and the playground at the park will provide a diversion while parents participate in the other festivities, including a silent auction.

Spread the word and be sure to join the community for this festive and supportive event – all are welcome! Donations may be made in advance at the Daniel Island Academy (300 Seven Farms Drive). You may also donate at the event. For further information contact atkgeneral@gmail.com.
