A Musical Evening on Daniel Island
October 7, 2009
By Sheridan Long, Daniel Island Resident
I was fortunate to have recently participated in a magical event held on Daniel Island. The Chamber Music Charleston opened their new season with its House Concert Series, which on Tuesday, September 29 was held at the home of Tara and Steven King on beautiful Ralston Creek on Daniel Island. Approximately 45 people attended this intimate wind quintet performance, which featured works by Beethoven.
“The houses on Daniel Island are phenomenal…they are large with open floor plans – very well suited for chamber music with high ceilings, beautiful architecture,” said Sandra Nikolajevs, director of Chamber Music Charleston. “When we think about doing a house concert, the important elements are of course the music and the musicians but also the architecture of the home and the friendliness of the community.” And based on these elements, the concert and socializing were indeed a huge success!
The concert lasted close to an hour, followed by drinks and appetizers on the back patio of the King home, which overlooks Ralston Creek and the surrounding marsh. Both new and old friends enjoyed a perfect evening of amazing weather, stars and moon overhead, and ethereal music.
Following the event, I headed to Wasabi, a new restaurant in downtown Daniel Island, for a glass of wine and some fabulous sushi with some friends. All in all, this was an evening that I won’t forget anytime soon!
Make sure you don’t miss the next performance in the Daniel Island series!
